Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a leading cause of death from which we can save many lives with simple, life-saving therapies like bystander CPR and AED use. The first step is accurately tracking the incidence of OHCA and outcomes in communities, which is what the Texas-CARES Program does for the state of Texas. The next step is implementing interventions to continuously assure everyone (regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, or socioeconomic status) receives high-quality care and has the best odds of survival with a return to their pre-arrest status. The Texas CARES Data Summary Report provides a visual overview of key demographics and survival characteristics in 2021 for cardiac arrest in Texas.
